DEFINITION

Under general supervision, perform custodial maintenance at school facilities and to do related work as assigned. Confers with Head Custodian and/or supervising site administrator(s) regarding performance of routine and special cleaning programs at a school plant or other facility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Routine cleaning including sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets, dusting furniture and applicable surfaces, emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; cleaning and disinfecting restrooms; cleaning blackboards/whiteboards, windows, walls and doors, and polices school grounds for debris.
• Special cleaning includes scrubbing, stripping and finishing hard surface floors, deep cleaning carpet surfaced floors, washing windows and cleaning blinds.
• Perform necessary minor maintenance to support positive learning environment including, but not limited to changing light bulbs, heating/ventilating air filters, clearing clogged toilets and urinals, touch-up painting, lawn edging, weed spraying, safety inspections and corrections.
• May be assigned tasks of unlocking and locking doors to buildings, setting security alarms, raising/lowering flag. 
• May move furniture as directed and receive and distribute school supplies.
• Responsible for assigned uniforms, custodial equipment, tools and materials. 
• Perform other job-related tasks as required.

Modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment;

Ability to:

Use cleaning materials and equipment with skill and efficiency;

Interact with and maintain cooperative relationships with all levels of staff and the public;

Understand and follow a work schedule and verbal and written directions:

Licenses:

Possess a current California drivers’ license.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS

Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position;  manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone, and operate cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment;  vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations;

speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in  conversational distance, and on the telephone;  physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and to reach overhead and climb;  physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, from school site-to-site) and respond to emergency situations;  physical strength sufficient to lift 60 pounds;  physical stamina sufficient to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time;  physical tolerance to be exposed to dust pollen specific agents/chemicals, cleansers, foul smells;  mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish

facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or its equivalent or any combination of education, training and experience to provide demonstrable competency in reading, writing and custodial skills.
