Head Varsity Football Coach

 

SUMMARY

 

Under limited supervision, we expect our Head  Football Coach to administer, implement and maintain a winning football program that will foster competition, good sportsmanship, and pride.  We expect this person to develop a comprehensive football program that includes a focus on building interest at the elementary schools and at the middle school. We also expect this person to lead our student-athletes and coaches to achieve a high level of skill, an appreciation for the values of discipline, and an increased level of self-esteem and confidence.

 

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Comply with all school district, league and CIF rules
Coordinate all football practices during the spring, summer and fall and ensure equitable use of facilities with other user groups.
Review and assess needs of the football program and create a comprehensive plan to address any deficiencies.
Cooperate with administration in recruiting and hiring assistant coaches.
Serve as a liaison between the school and the community to promote a positive image for the program.
Promote an off-season program that includes weight training and speed and agility training.
Engage in an oversee fundraising efforts specific to the football program and ensure appropriate use of these funds.
Work cooperatively and effectively with the football boosters club members.
In conjunction with the Athletic Director, review and approve all football schedules.
Ensure staff is appropriately trained in basic medical (first aid) procedures.
Cooperate with administration and staff and be responsible for an accurate eligibility roster.
Maintain equipment inventory and hold staff/students responsible for that equipment.
Make recommendations on replacement equipment as necessary.
Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health and recreation education.
Analyze, demonstrate, and explain fundamental skills, knowledge and strategies that result in a successful football program.
Provide appropriate safety instruction and conduct safety inspections on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of participants.
Establish and maintain acceptable standards of student behavior necessary to provide an orderly, productive environment on and off the field.
Evaluate each player's physical skills and knowledge.  Assess each individuals contribution to the performance of the team.
Provide supervision of team while traveling.
Confer with assistant coaches in order to select protective equipment.
Instruct coaches/students, medical personnel, community members, and parents in the care and prevention of athletic injuries.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:
CIF Blue Book Constitution and By-Laws
Football coaching techniques and the ability to effectively convey those techniques to student-athletes.
Fundamental skills needed to develop and manage a football program within the established philosophy of the athletic department, school, district, and CIF.
Basic first aid medical procedures, including CPR.
Basic record-keeping and report preparation.
Safety and protective football equipment available to students.

ABILITY TO:
Administer and provide leadership and organization for all levels of the high school football program.
Administer basic first aid and CPR.
Attend off-campus sporting events as needed.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate and interact effectively with students, parents, coaches and faculty.
Follow appropriate district policies and procedures.
Maintain records and prepare reports as needed.
Direct and review the work of coaches at all three levels.
Understand, be sensitive to and respect the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disabilities and sexual orientation of students, faculty, and staff.
Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance.
Follow prescribed school/district procedures related to all funds associated with the football program.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Education

Baccalaureate Degree in Physical Education, Education or related field is desired.

Experience
Five years of demonstrated and successful experience as a  varsity coordinator or head coach is required.
