About the Employer

The Merced County Office of Education assists Merced County’s 20 school districts through support and oversight of curriculum and instruction, alternative education, business services, early education, technology, migrant education, special education, and teacher credentialing. MCOE is led by the elected Merced County Superintendent of Schools and governed by the Merced County Board of Education. While serving as a focal point to facilitate local school/government/community partnerships, MCOE is responsible for the fiscal oversight of each school district in Merced County, hears appeals for student expulsion hearings and interdistrict transfers and operates Green Meadows Outdoor School.

SUMMARY: Manages, supervises, plans, and coordinates Head Start/Early Head Start child care partnerships. Establishes partnerships with child care providers in both child development centers and family child care settings; conducts outreach and recruits child care providers; enrolls children into Head Start assuring full enrollment in the family child care option; coordinates activities with other Head Start service areas to assure the full range of Head Start services to children co-enrolled in Head Start and partner child care programs; assists child care providers to enhance learning opportunities available in the child care setting. Ensures the implementation and delivery of comprehensive Head Start services, including education, health, family support, nutrition, mental health services and other areas as appropriate in the Family Child Care option. Guide, support, monitor, and train assigned Family Child Care providers ensuring all services and functions are completed with quality in a timely manner and in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards, California Health and Safety Codes, MCOE/Head Start Policies and all other applicable State, local and Federal guidelines. Coordinate the transition of children into and out of Head Start.

Minimum qualifications: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in child development, human development, early childhood education or related field. EXPERIENCE: Over three years of experience as a pre-school teacher or licensed child care provider. One year of experience coaching or guiding adult learners. CREDENTIALS AND/OR SKILLS: Bilingual in English/Spanish. Knowledge of California State Childcare Licensing Regulations; child growth and development; community resources within Merced County; principles of case management. Ability to plan, organize and implement a child and family development program; work effectively with individuals of diverse educational, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds, and those with disabilities and special needs. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and related software applications. Valid CA driver’s license and minimum amount of liability insurance required by law. DMV H-6 printout required. View attached job description for complete details.
