Solano County Office of Education JOB TITLE: Teacher – Special Education PRIMARY FUNCTION Provides for the instruction of students with disabilities. Develops, implements and coordinates individualized education programs for students enrolled in Special Education programs. DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO Special Education administrator MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Valid California credential authorizing service in Special Day class. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES •Assists in identifying and evaluating individuals with special needs. •Instructs students with special needs. •Adjusts educational programs to assist the student in becoming as independent as possible. •Adapts classroom environment and prepares specialized materials to meet the needs of individual students. •Evaluates daily performances of each student and adjusts future instruction accordingly. Evaluates total program of each student through the use of tests/ observations. •Confers with parents at school, by phone, in writing and in making home visits. •As appropriate, develops individual transition plans, supports community-based instruction and supports students in integrated school environments. •Participates in IEP meetings to determine appropriate instructional program for individuals with special needs. •Prepares written reports to other professional persons and to parents. Maintains necessary up-to-date information relating to rosters, reports, etc. •Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of Teacher – Special Education.
