The Facilities Maintenance Specialist provides quality service to maintain and care for the grounds and facilities. This position requires the Facilities Maintenance Specialist to perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance, repair, and related work on our campus buildings, grounds, and equipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED The Facilities Maintenance Specialist should have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position: a) Basic methods and practices for in electrical, flooring, plumbing, framing, drywall, basic construction. b) Basic operations, materials, equipment, tools, and terms used in building and mechanical trades c) Use of hand and power tools related to work performed d) Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform repetitive manual work e) Ability to perform multiple, non-technical tasks adhering to common safety practices and procedures f) Ability to work independently without close supervision g) Ability to establish cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work. The specific responsibilities of the Facilities Maintenance Specialist include, but are not limited to, the following: a) Performing building system and general repairs throughout campus as assigned by supervisor b) Performing general campus maintenance tasks, including maintaining the school buildings, restrooms, common spaces, the grass fields, play structures, and the campus parking lot c) Assisting with the setup and takedown of on-campus events and meetings with direction relayed from supervisor d) Handling of all campus maintenance projects and personnel moves, which include assembling furniture, disposing of furniture, movement of items ranging from 25 to 50 lbs., interior/exterior painting, aesthetic repairs, and repairing broken fixtures/equipment e) Maintaining a preventative maintenance program for campus buildings and grounds f) Building items for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs g) Inspecting facilities systems and machinery requiring skilled maintenance trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.) and system components and facility accessories (sidewalks, fences, etc.) to identify potential repairs and provide ongoing preventative maintenance h) Repairing systems to maintain facilities in safe comfortable operation condition, resolving safety concerns i) Unlocking campus each morning and setting up for student drop off j) Responding to and referring incidents to appropriate site personnel (e.g. injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, etc.) to ensure follow-up in accordance with administrative and safety guidelines k) Operating equipment pertaining to facilities tasks (e.g. computers, photocopy machines, maintenance tools, cleaning machines, landscaping equipment l) Performing custodial work throughout campus on an as-needed basis as assigned by supervisor m) Performing special assignments and related duties as assigned by supervisor
