1. CREDENTIAL: Education Specialist; Special Education; or appropriate credential as prescribed by law. Must have CLAD. We will consider an Intern with verification from an Institute of Higher Education. 2. PERSONAL QUALITIES: Maintain a professional appearance; meet District standards for physical and mental health; demonstrate enthusiasm for assignment and willingness to participate in supervision of extra-curricular activities; demonstrate ability to maintain cooperative relations with others; have strong work ethic; willingness to be a part of the overall school program. 3. PROFESSIONAL RECOMMENDATIONS: Better than average recommendations from supervisors and other professionals who have observed and evaluated personal characteristics and scholastic attainment. 4. BASIC SKILLS: Must meet Basic Skills requirements. 5. OTHER: The following are preferred, not required: Credential authorization to provide special education instructional services to students with autism; Bilingual (Spanish/English); and coaching ability. 6. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

      Comments and Other Information

      Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1. Assist in assessment of individuals with suspected difficulties in language acquisition, learning, development, or emotional adjustment. 2. Prepare written reports of the results of assessments. 3. Participate as a member of an IEP or review team to: A. Interpret assessment results and make recommendations for the development of a student’s Individualized Education Program and placement. B. Review and/or modify a student’s program. 4. Develop IEPs for students receiving special education instruction or services. 5. Implement IEPs through the scheduling of individual and/or class sessions and development of necessary programs, materials and activities. 6. Implement individual behavior plans. 7. Provide instruction and services to students with difficulties in learning, language development or emotional adjustment. 8. Coordinate special education services with the student’s regular and special education programs. 9. Provide ongoing monitoring and review of student progress. 10. Confer with parents and professional staff members on student’s progress. 11. Refer students to nurses, psychologists, agency representatives and others for further evaluation when necessary. 12. Provide on-going consultation and inservice regarding learning, development and emotional adjustment to students, parents, teachers or other school personnel. 13. Participate in pre-referral activities such as consultation, screening and Student Study Teams. 14. Maintain appropriate files and records on each student. 15. Train and supervise instructional aides. 16. Teach small groups of students in accordance with IEPs. 17. Attend staff and inservice meetings as required.
