WISH has two independent charter schools:
- WISH Community School which serves grades TK-8 on two campuses
- WISH Academy High School which serves 9th grade students on one campus
Position Description
WISH is seeking an enthusiastic, skilled, and creative School Counselor to be a part of a team of educators working to provide a challenging and inclusive education for all students. We are looking for individuals with a passion for working with all children and the desire to work within a highly collaborative staff. S/he will help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally through a comprehensive school counseling program. S/he will also They will collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community for all students. The School Counselor will work with children in grades 9-12.
Responsibilities
The School Counselor’s job responsibilities include:
- Facilitate individual and small group counseling including enhancing self esteem, developing positive peer relationships and learning proactive coping skills;
- Providing direct services to individuals or groups of students (e.g. counseling, crisis interventions, mentoring, and individual safety plans, when appropriate);
- Present classroom lessons on skills for learning, empathy, problem solving skills and school safety;
- Documenting student progress towards meeting established goals and objectives by maintaining individual case notes for each student;
- Managing and maintaining accurate records of student’s academic points for 12th grade graduation;
- Consult with teachers and staff to assist with planning and implementing appropriate classroom interventions for students in order to minimize or prevent disruptions in the educational environment;
- Communicating and interacting effectively with multiple stakeholders to support student achievement;
- Participating in IEP meetings of students on an assigned caseload;
- Develop and implement educationally-based IEP communication goals using a variety of service delivery models to support the classroom curriculum;
- Collaborating with teachers to ensure that students meet the goals outlined in their IEPs;
- Managing the ambiguity and multiple priorities inherent in an entrepreneurial environment;
- Coordinate, facilitate, and manage 504 Plans for all students 9-12;
- Coordinate, manage, and participate in Student Support and Progress Team (SSPT) meetings as needed;
- Collaborate with Middle School Principal on grades 9-12 Master Schedule;
- Create, manage and program grades 9-12 Master Schedule and 9-12 student schedules in student information system;
- Create, manage, and maintain all report cards for grades 9-12 through student information system.
