Job Title:                   Bilingual Aide/Site Assistant
Reports To:               Executive Director or Designee

Summary

With supervision by certificated staff, assist with small groups of Limited English Proficient (LEP) children, giving instructional assistance.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Take direction from the EL Coordinator
  • Interprets for Spanish speaking students and parents as needed
  • With the EL teachers, guide and facilitate activities of the children, including daily activities, and arranging material in the classroom and at the Learning Center in Modesto. 
  • Guide student’s acquisition of social skills
  • Assist in providing  and maintaining a safe and healthy developmentally appropriate environment
  • Assist in translating for Spanish speaking parents in school meetings
  • Other duties as may be assigned by either the Executive Director or Designee

 

Essential Functions for Site Assistant:

 

Summary:    Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of clerical tasks including answering phones, maintaining files, including confidential material, and does other projects as required by the Executive Director or her designee.

 

  • Receptionist: Warmly greet families coming into the center or school office.  Answer basic school questions, give out charters, enrollment forms, informational flyers, etc., and refer questions on to the responsible person.
  • Answer the telephone:  Check messages and return calls.  Give out basic school information.  Mail out enrollment and other forms as necessary. Refer questions on to the responsible person.
  • Classes: Opens and closes building for the instructors. Supervise students before and after classes while they are waiting for their parents.  Collect all necessary Contract Class approval forms and forward to the instructor.
  • Learning Center Activities: Maintain a master calendar of all center activities. Keep a current posting available of area activities.  Distributes activity information to all ESs from parent groups and individual ESs.
  • Supervise use of learning center by parents and students:  Schedules usage of center items (computers, classes, and videos) and make sure items are used correctly and not abused.
  • Resource Library: Check materials in and out in accordance with established procedures.
  • Receive Materials: Make sure that materials shipped are all received as listed, notify the ES of their materials arrival and store in designated area.
  • Check out supplies: Check out supplies to the families in accordance with established procedures.
  • Run errands when needed for school business to:  Staples, Costco, etc
  • Other duties as may be assigned by either the Learning Center Coordinator or IT Coordinator

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Internet software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.  Ability to type at a speed of 50 wpm.
