COMMUNITY AND FAMILY OUTREACH LIAISON

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the school site Administrator or designee , provide liaison between the school, home and community agencies; provide assist¬ance to school families and parent groups; assist school personnel with problems dealing with school adjustment, attendance, and child welfare; will plan, develop, and implement informational and educational programs for parents and families; coordinate corresponding parent advisory meetings/committees and provide outreach services to the community, parents, and staff.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

Plan, develop, and implement the parent/community component of the school’s Single Plan for Student Achievement and program components of local, state, and federal grants. E

Consult with administration, teachers, and other staff members concerning students; review student records to identify irregular attendance patterns and behavior or academic concerns. E

Assist school personnel to verify student attendance by making phone calls and home visits. E

Facilitate development of district and school site programs and practices which respond to community needs, interests, and/or concerns. E

Promote and coordinate involvement by parents, business community and civic representatives in the implementation of the traditional and school improvement programs. E

Visit the homes of students with attendance problems to observe home situations, counsel parents and students regarding regular attendance providing information concerning school rules and regulations, determine student needs, make referrals to appropriate agencies, and record the findings of the home visit. Review all School Attendance and Review Board (SARB) referrals and prepare for and participate as a representative for the school site. E

Provide technical assistance and participate in the organization of workshops and in-service training for District staff, parents and parent groups, and community members. E

Serve as a liaison and community resource for students, staff, parents, parent groups, community groups, and advisory committees. E

Provide transportation to students and parents as necessary to ensure compliance with school rules and regulations or to provide emergency assistance. E

Assist in preparation and dissemination of agendas, developing informational items and presentations, and facilitating organization and coordination for meetings of specific groups or committees. E

Provide appropriate recommendations for teachers, District personnel, parents, and students regarding such action as student transfers, referrals, academic or disciplinary interventions, community resources, and public agencies . E

Investigate complaints of nonattendance from city residents and public agencies. E

Develop, establish and coordinate community resource contacts; maintain information systems on available community resources for use by District personnel, parent groups and families. E

Monitor the use of community resources and the effectiveness of those resources in meeting school/community needs. E

Provide in-service opportunities for school personnel working with community resources and pupil services. E

Assist school personnel to help students enroll, adjust to school and attend regularly. E

Perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Record-keeping techniques.
Modern office methods and equipment including the use of a computer.
Reading, writing, and oral communication skills.
Spanish language bilingual required.

Flexible work hours, which includes evenings and Saturday.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Operate office equipment including a computer.

Perform the essential functions of the job.
Speak, read and write in Spanish highly preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to bachelor’s degree or equivalent in human services or related fields and two years' experience working with community and social services organizations. Two year of experience in working in a

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (CONTINUED)

secondary school environment focusing on parent outreach, community resources, and attendance problems is desirable.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid California driver's license.
May be required to transport parents and students as necessary.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

ENVIRONMENT:
School and office environment.
Subject to visiting school and home locations throughout the community.
Driving a vehicle to conduct work.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
Hearing and speaking accurately to exchange information in person or on
the telephone.
Seeing to read a variety of materials and drive a vehicle.
Sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods of time.
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.
Lifting or moving objects, normally not exceeding twenty (20) pounds.
