PUBLIC INFORMATION AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH OFFICER

Under the direction of the Superintendent, oversee the District’s communications program including assuring equal access to all members of the public, staff, parents and students. The communications program includes, but is not limited to, written and oral communications, translation, phone, video, and internet and media links.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop and direct the District’s internal and external communications program
• Direct and coordinate the District’s media relations, including serving as the District’s Public Information Officer
• Coordinate the development, implementation, and updating of the District’s website
• Develop information packets, brochures, fact sheets, and presentations for public dissemination
• Coordinate the District’s community outreach program and activities
• Coordinate community/staff forums
• Coordinate the development, updating and processing of District policies and regulations, and training needed for implementation
• Coordinate the design, development, distribution, and scheduling of the District’s television program (video production)
• Coordinate the development and distribution of the District’s monthly information column for inclusion in the school sites’ newsletters
• Develop and coordinate a strategic communications plan, including preparing messages that align with the District’s goals and objectives, and response to current events
• Assist with the development of communication tools used by departments and schools
• Coordinate the dissemination of annual School Accountability Report Cards (SARCs)
• Assist with the development of the District’s parent education program
• Coordinate District email lists, emergency lists, and other lists to ensure effective communications
• Coordinate the processing of Public Records Act requests
• Direct the work of the public information support staff dissemination
• Work with other managers and staff to improve efficiency and effectiveness of division operations, programs, and services
• Work collaboratively with other divisions and departments to meet District goals and ensure alignment of programs, services, and operations
• Direct and coordinate other special projects and duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:
Eligible for Administrative Credential and Teaching Credential
Experience and/or equal expertise in public relations, communications and/or mass media experience
Ability to write information in a clear, comprehensible style
Ability to manage website information
Computer literate - required
Bilingual preferred
