MATHEMATICS TEACHER

 

 

Under the principal’s direction, and as part of a secondary teaching assignment, the Mathematics Teacher teaches one or more classes of mathematics and assists in other school duties as assigned.

 

  1. I.                   Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. a.      Performs duties in accordance with District and State school policies and\or laws.
    2. b.      Teaches courses in mathematics to secondary pupils utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
    3. c.       Develops a balanced math program involving factual background material, and mathematics lab, and other appropriate activities designed to encourage pupil’s to develop skills and attitudes, draw conclusions, achieve improved interpersonal relationships and makes value judgments based on scientific methods of inquiry.
    4. d.      Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual abilities.
    5. e.      Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
    6. f.        Evaluates each pupil’s development in course being taught and prepares progress reports.
    7. g.      Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities.
    8. h.      Participates with the principal or his\her designee to mutually develop the system by which he\she will be evaluated in conformance with the District’s uniform guidelines for evaluation and assessments.
  2. II.                Other Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. a.      Selects and requisitions books, instructional aides and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records; may request resource speakers and field trips.
    2. b.      Communicates with parents and school personnel to discuss the individual pupil’s progress.
    3. c.       Identifies pupil’s needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems.
    4. d.      Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
    5. e.      Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or assignment and\or on a District level.  May teach under the module or flexible scheduling plan.
    6. f.        Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
    7. g.      Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistant’s and\or other paraprofessionals.
    8. h.      Attends all faculty, in-service, and articulation meetings.
    9. i.        Performs other duties, such as, yard and bus duties as assigned by the school’s extra duty roster.
    10. j.        Supervises co-curricular activities, such as, student’s supervision at athletic events, club sponsorships and dance duties as assigned.
    11. k.      Assists in writing goals and performance objectives in his teaching assignment and relevant school and District levels as assigned.
