Position Description: Under supervision of a principal or designee, patrols buildings, grounds and adjacent areas of a school; maintains order; prevents the entry of unauthorized persons; enforces rules, regulations, ordinances and laws; assists in attendance office activities relating to truancy; provides orientation for pupils on safety and security procedures; assists administrative staff personnel in maintaining orderly conduct during school hours; serves upon occasion, after hours, at special school events; protects school property from damage by vandalism or theft; notifies the school principal of situations that may result in disturbances; cooperates with law enforcement as directed; prepares reports and memoranda; and performs related duties as required. Nature of duties requires considerable walking and standing and involves exposure to risks inherent in security work. Employee performs duties of job without close supervision, acts quickly, effectively, tactfully, and maturely in emergencies; relates to and works effectively with all individuals within the culturally diverse environment of SFUSD; develops and maintains effective communication with staff and public; deals fairly and convincingly with pupils, faculty and others. Qualification: 1. High School diploma or equivalent AND 2. Two years full-time work experience and successful completion of course work in political science or police administration; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Desirable Qualifications: Successful experience working with students, and administration in a culturally diverse public school environment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of human growth and development, human relations, community relations, and problems facing minority youth in San Francisco; ability to apply District and school rules and regulations, and state and municipal laws and ordinances; and oral and written communication skills appropriate to satisfy the duties listed above.
