BASIC FUNCTION:

Provide educationally related occupational therapy services to students with various disabilities according to the students’ Individualized Education Plan (IEP); participate as a member of the educational team.

REPRESENTIVE DUTIES:

Provide occupational therapy to students with various disabilities according to the IEP Plan developed by the Occupational Therapist in accordance with District policies and procedure.  E

Provide occupational therapy as directed by the Occupational Therapist.  E

Assist the Occupational Therapist with data collection and assessment.  E

Participate in conducting evaluations in conjunction with staff Occupational Therapist.  E

Gather data, administer structured tests, report observations and contribute to development of therapy plan.  E

Participate in team meetings when necessary.  E

Know and comply with state and federal regulations as they pertain to this position.  E

Maintain appropriate documentation and reports.  E

Provide technical assistance to teachers.  E

Communicate with Occupational therapist and other IEP team members regarding students’ progress, problems or plan.  E

Assist with cleaning and maintenance of therapy areas.  E

Communicate with students; families and teachers.

Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

Child development.

Individual and group physical therapy techniques commonly used with students with various disabilities.

Educational applications of adaptive equipment.

Generally accepted standards of health and sanitation.

Interpersonal skills.

Record-keeping procedures

ABILITY TO:

Organize and conduct an occupational therapy program for students with various disabilities.

Communicate effectively in the English language, both orally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with parents, students, staff, community agencies and others.

Prepare reports and maintain records.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying; graduation or coursework from an accredited occupational therapy educational program is desired.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid certification as an Occupational Therapist by the American Occupational Therapy Association or the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Assistant is desired.
