GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direct supervision of the site Principal and the Director of Special Education, the instructor serving in this position will be teaching students with various learning handicapped disabilities. This person provides individualized instruction appropriate to the needs of each student, and provides a specifically designed program based upon the Individualized Education Program (IEP) developed for each student in cooperation with the parent, principal, and supporting staff. Instruction of handicapped students may be shared by supporting staff as appropriate to the learner’s needs. The instructor develops daily lesson plans for the class in all required subjects consistent with the goals of the special education program; provides individualized and small group instruction consistent with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) of each pupil; develops and implements a classroom management plan appropriate for pupils with learning and/or behavior disorders; provides a classroom environment that facilitates the learning of appropriate academic and social skills; provide for the IEP committee appropriate instructional goal and objective information for each pupil based upon assessment and observational data; participates with the IEP committee in the planning of an individualized education program for each pupil. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Possession of the following valid credentials: Education Specialist Instruction Credential Mild to Moderate or Specialist in Special Education/Learning Handicap. EXPERIENCE: Evidence of successful teaching of students with handicapping conditions in a special, regular, or supervised training assignment. KNOWLEDGE OF: Basic knowledge of teaching methods; general, technical and professional knowledge of disabilities, behavioral characteristics and methods of communicating with and instructing students. Must have training in methodologies in instruction of individuals with autism, knowledge of Early Childhood Development.
