      Comments and Other Information

BACKGROUND Bright Star Schools was created in 2002 by a group of concerned educators and local citizens who recognized the need to provide the West Adams community with a successful alternative to underperforming local public schools. With the support of community leaders, dedicated parents, and a committed Board of Directors, we gained a LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District) charter and in 2003, Stella Middle Charter Academy began operation. Our high school, Bright Star Secondary Charter Academy opened its doors in 2006. Our grade levels have expanded each year to reach more students and in 2010-11, our academies will serve over 760 students in the 5th - 12th grades on two campuses. The vision of Bright Star Schools is to build exemplary tuition-free public schools that serve Los Angeles’s urban communities. By leveraging our core values and operating principles to achieve outstanding academic performance, Bright Star will establish a model of scholastic excellence. By 2012, Stella Middle Charter Academy and Bright Star Secondary Charter Academy will reach full enrollment of 1,000 students, and our state-of-the art facility will open by 2014. We are seeking high energy, well organized teachers who have proven success at the middle school level and are seeking a small school environment where they have the ability to share in the school's leadership and shape the school's future. The business plan envisions growing leadership from within the organization and hiring teachers that have the desire to become school leaders.
